Alicia Keys: The Girl On Fire

In what way may we begin to express the mastermind behind the lyrics of Alicia Keys' songs? Her songwriting mastery is inspiring for women and families with different backgrounds and heritage. Without knowing, her music has influenced millions, teaching them to keep fighting and to stand up whenever they feel they are being pushed to the side and their voices lack power.

The story of how a young girl from a rough neighborhood had been able to succeed in life and motivate millions is undoubtedly a noble one. Throughout her career, the industry has tried to knock her down and clip her wings, invalidating her ability to fly. But she has persevered, she stood and fought against her oppressors, speaking more specifically of different discographies. Gaining the respect she truly deserves, earning sponsorships, collaborations, and huge opportunities that no other artist might ever gain in their career.

Her lyrics explore different music genres, like Hip-Hop, Soul, and R&B earning her the title of Queen of the latter. All of her songs represent different meanings and try to convey different stories. Some speak of her heritage, some of her experiences as a woman, and others are simply fun beats that speak of dance, family, and love. Most of all, her lyrics are empowering and teach her audience, mostly young women, to love and cherish themselves, and those around them.

Dear Alicia Keys, thank you. Because without you and your beautiful poetic lyrics, we would have been deprived of an excellent artist, and for that I thank you. Not only is she a very influential music persona, but she is also an exceptional and distinguished human being. She is a person who isn’t afraid to help others, and make an impact. In fact, I can describe Keys as a devoted and influential philanthropist. Being the Global Ambassador for the non-profit organization dedicated to providing life-saving, antiretroviral treatment and resources to children and their families with HIV/AIDS in Africa and India. Who wouldn’t want a role model like that one?

Being a woman in the music industry is no easy job, and Alicia has been able to navigate this murky water with apparent ease. Creating a family in an environment where this type of life is almost always destined to fail. Demonstrating to us that her intelligence and resilience are impeccable, and we could all gain something from understanding her.

So much love, so much hate in this big dark world. The hope of light is always sought, it can be represented in song. “Looks like a girl, but she's a flame. So bright, she can burn your eyes. Better look the other way. You can try, but you'll never forget her name. She's on top of the world” I don’t know about you, but these are the lyrics that I want future generations to listen to. This is the message we should be listening to. So Alicia, thank you, for being this role model and for being an inspiration to girls and women all around the world.
