OSMOSIS LAB: HOW CELLS DRINK WATER?

AIS Innovation Center
Biology Lab - Second Floor

Date:
September 2023

Teacher:
Natalia De Moya

Participants:
7th grade
Purpose
To demonstrate how is the flow of water molecules (osmosis) in hypertonic and hypotonic solutions.
Description
7th graders performed an experiment to demonstrate how osmosis works in plant cells. We used potatoes, salt as solute and water as solvent and after setting the experiment they wrote hypothesis to be test after finishing. Following the scientific method, students completed a lab report explaining their results and accepting/refuting their own hypothesis.
Results and Impact Generated
After the lab experience, students were able to make conclusions about osmosis analyzing their own evidence. They were able to test their hypothesis and to explain why they were accepted/refuted.
